Nematostella Wound Healing and Regeneration

Megan and Jess, are undergraduate students researching wound healing and regeneration in Nematostella using two cell markers. The first marker, NucBlue, reveals cell proliferation. the second is Annexin, which shows cell apoptosis (programmed cell death). Megan wants to discover what cell functions are most important in the regeneration of Nematostella heads versus their tails post-dissection. Ultimately, this research will be helpful in understanding how the anemone regenerate overall. Cnidarian wound healing and regeneration have significant implications both to the medical community and to the health of coral reefs.
